HF-band radio communications |
HFpack is dedicated to furthering the state of the art for portable HF-band (high frequency) radio communications. This year at Pacificon 2007, the HFpack HF Portable Group (created by Bonnie Crystal, KQ6XA) will again be offering an entire weekend of fun. The following is a summary of our planned activities. Check back for updates and additional information.
Friday evening 10/19/07 (HFpack Group Dinner):
On Friday evening, we will be joining the NorCal QRP Group for a joint dinner. Location to be announced soon. To participate in the dinner meet in the hotel lobby at 6:00 pm .
Saturday Day 10/20/07 (Forum):
This year the HFpack Forum's theme will be " HFpack Portable Operation". Elecraft will provide an entertaining presentation featuring the new K3 high performance, HF transceiver. The K3's compact size makes it an excellent HFpack rig for the field.
The HFpack Forum will also be featuring the following :
- Portable Antenna Open Discussion ( presented by local HFpackers, along with the latest hints from Bonnie Crystal, KQ6XA)

- Lithium battery update ( new info on the Lithium Iron nanophosphate packs, which do not catch fire, or explode)
- The latest products and news from LDG Electronics.
- Equipment demos along with Q/A
- Vendor Presentations from SuperAntennas, Buddipole Antennas , Pacific Antenna, HFprojects, HFp Antennas, Hendricks' QRP Kits, and info from AOR.
- HFpack Raffle ( must be present to win).
See Forums page for time & place of Saturday HFpack Forum schedule
Saturday Evening 10/20/07 ( Annual HFpack Zombie Walk):
The HFpack Group will again be featuring the "Walk til Ya Drop" Zombie Walk on Saturday evening, as the Pacificon Banquet ends. See the HFpack Zombies come out at night with huge antennas on their backs. It's hilarious ! This is a traditional event where you can see backpack HF operation in action on the lowbands (40M, 60M and 80M). HFpack Zombies like to walk around with tall antennas on their backs. Everyone is invited to bring their packs, or just watch the fun.
Sunday afternoon 10/21/07 (HFpack Day in the Park) :
On Sunday, we will be conducting the "HFpack Day in the Park" with Picnic Table Portable, and Pedestrian Mobile setups. Everyone is welcomed to bring their own portable rigs , and antennas for an afternoon of on the air fun. Many HFpackers all over the country will be listening for contacts on 17M, 20M and 40M. Chris, W6HFP will be on hand to demonstrate the latest accessories from Buddipole Antennas.
There is no additional charge for the HFpack activities at Pacificon, but you will need to have a Pacificon General Admission ticket to participate in activities at the hotel. See Buy Tickets Page.
