HFpack is dedicated to furthering the state of the art for portable HF-band (high frequency) radio communications. This year at Pacificon 2008, the HFpack HF Portable Group (created by Bonnie Crystal, KQ6XA) will again be offering an entire weekend of fun. The following is a summary of our planned activities. Check back for updates and additional information.
Friday evening 10/17/08 (HFpack Group Dinner):
On Friday evening, we will be joining the NorCal QRP Group for a joint dinner at the El Balazo Mexican Restaurant in San Ramon. To participate in the dinner meet in the hotel lobby at 6:00 pm. Talk in will be on FM simplex on 144.300.
Saturday Day 10/18/08 (Forum): Our forum theme is HF Mobile. The forum time is 3:30 to 5:45 pm in Salons G & H. Local HFpackers will present an overview on the latest installation
tips, rigs, antennas, and techiques for an efficient mobile setup.
The HFpack Forum will also be featuring the following :
- Hear about the History of HF Mobile from Jim Heath, W6LG, from High Sierra Antennas .
- Chris, W6HFP, from Buddipole Antennas, will discuss fixed/temporary HF Mobile, and Lithium Nanophosphate Batteries.
- During the vendor presentation, Doug, KI6DS, from Hendricks QRP Kits,
will show us the new PFR3, which is excellent for QRP HF Mobile. Vern, W6MMA, from SuperAntennas has many handy accessories. Also on display will be examples of mounting hardware, and popular motorized antennas.
- We plan to organize an HF Mobile Show N Tell in the Marriott parking lot after the forum concludes. Anyone with their own mobile is welcome to park right next to us. The owner of each vehicle will describe their installations, and answer questions. We plan to park as many cars as close together as possible, and walk as a group to each one on display. Just look for the tall antennas!

Saturday Evening 10/20/07 ( Annual HFpack Zombie Walk):
The HFpack Group will again be featuring the "Walk til Ya Drop" Zombie Walk on Saturday evening, as the Pacificon Banquet ends. It will begin at approximately 9:45 pm. See the HFpack Zombies come out at night with huge antennas on their backs. It's lots of fun! This is a traditional event where you can see backpack HF operation in action on the lowbands (40M, 60M and 80M). HFpack Zombies like to walk around with tall antennas on their backs. Everyone is invited to bring their packs, or just watch the fun.
Sunday afternoon 10/19/08 (HFpack Day in the Park) :
The HFpack "Day in the Park" will begin around 2:30 pm at Central Park (a few blocks from the Marritott). Bring your radios and operate all day picnic table portable. HF Mobile setups will again be parked on display for inspection and Q/A. Talk in will be on FM simplex on 144.300.
There is no additional charge for the HFpack activities at Pacificon, but you will need to have a Pacificon General Admission ticket to participate in activities at the hotel. See Buy Tickets Page.
