This year is the centennial year for the Boy Scouts Of America, chartered by an act of congress in 1910. On the weekend of October 16th and 17th scouts celebrate the 53rd edition of the Jamboree On The Air (JOTA). JOTA started in 1957 in England as an annual event for a group of radio amateur scoutmasters to meet on the air with their wireless stations. Since those times the event has grown, and has come under the direction of the World Organization Of Scouting Movement (WOSM). It is estimated that 500,000 Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Scout guides participate world wide.

Scouting ideas and experiences are shared and exchanged, or there is just a chance to say hello, over long distance ham radio frequencies. Scouts can learn how exciting and multi-faceted the amateur radio hobby is today, and how vast and sometimes culturally different scouting is in the world.

You don’t have to be a scout to participate or join in at our special event station. The call sign for the ham radio station is K6BSA. We have several frequencies for our use during JOTA. Look for us on 20 meters around the calling frequency of 14.290 +/- 10.

Join your fellow scouts in this world wide scouting event. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are encouraged to drop by and participate. Even if you are not a scout and are just interested in amateur radio or in scouting, please drop by and join us in this historic event!

JOTA is an official scouting event, please wear your uniform. SEE U IN OCTOBER!

Any scout in uniform will be admitted free to the weekend events, (not including the opening breakfast, banquet or antenna forum). Note that every astronaut who walked on the moon has been an Eagle scout and many of them are amateur radio operators. Join the club!
